As the owner and operator of Clear Creek Pecan Plantation I welcome you! My name is Zech Dameron III and today I invite you to take a journey with me into the world of Longhorns. In 1997 I set out on a quest to collect and raise the magical breed of cattle Registered Texas Longhorns. Since then the ranch has seen many firsts.
One of those firsts started with a cow that for many years was considered number one, and even now she still brings home the trophies for being the longest horned cow in her class. While there may be others that stretch past her, none can match up to the phenomenal production she provided us over the years. Her name is “Starlight” and she is above and beyond the common everyday Longhorn. She stretches beyond the 80” tip to tip mark now and makes the competition tremble as she dwarfs them in production. Her powerful genetics led to the creation of the highest selling cow to ever be sold at public auction, bidding in at a whopping $170,000!!! She was also the first Longhorn cow to ever be cloned or as it is now being referred to as Scientifically reproduced. Today modern science is working harder than ever before to keep up with the demands of what started years ago with “Starlight”.
Going back in time a little bit to 1973 I planted my first Pecan Tree. Those young saplings have blossomed into a huge Pecan Plantation numbering well over 2500 trees. This endeavor became a passion that has lasted the test of time. The scale of a Pecan Plantation is larger than most people can grasp. As time has passed and the popularity of pecans grows and subsides, so does the size of the plantation. Today those trees planted nearly four decades ago rest peacefully on 700 acres of rolling Texas pastures.
Thousands of pecan trees and Longhorns have passed through the ranch, but each one leaves a lasting impression with me. Whether it be a new seedling planted with the utmost care or petting a newborn Longhorn calf still wet and sticky, the experience is something that can only be felt not described. Every spring brings more hope and more fun. Each winter brings new memories that make all the hard work worthwhile.
Please join my staff and me on a tour of the Plantation to see first hand what we are growing this year.
